3 BHK Interior Design Cost: A Room-by-Room Budget Example

See how an illustrative ₹12 lakh budget can be organised across rooms, shared work and a reserve, with clear assumptions and exclusions.

Published by Houspire

How much should you budget for a 3 BHK?

The answer depends on what you need to build and buy. Three bedrooms do not establish the kitchen size, wardrobe quantities, existing furniture or renovation scope.

Start with a room list, then obtain itemised quotations. Treat a provider's package price as a proposal for its stated scope rather than the automatic cost of furnishing your whole home.

A worked ₹12 lakh planning example

This is an illustrative spending plan, not a market estimate, completed Houspire project or contractor offer. It assumes a new flat with usable flooring, bathrooms and a retained kitchen countertop. Major civil work and appliance purchases are excluded.

Each allocation is intended to cover the applicable taxes, delivery and installation for its listed scope. Actual quotations may exceed these targets; revise the scope before ordering if they do.

Area Illustrative scope Allocation
Kitchen Cabinets, shutters, essential fittings; retain countertop ₹2,80,000
Main bedroom Wardrobe, bed and basic bedside furniture ₹1,80,000
Second bedroom Wardrobe, bed and compact study provision ₹1,40,000
Third bedroom Essential storage and flexible furniture ₹1,00,000
Living and dining Sofa, TV unit and dining furniture ₹1,60,000
Electrical and lighting Selected additional points and fixtures ₹70,000
Painting Limited painting and touch-ups ₹50,000
Furnishings Basic curtains and soft furnishings ₹60,000
Planning and other identified expenses Fees and separately tracked project costs ₹40,000
Unallocated reserve Unexpected requirements and approved changes ₹1,20,000
Total ₹12,00,000

Mattresses, specialist décor and any items not explicitly allocated above need separate confirmation. The reserve is not permission to overlook known exclusions.

Allocate by use, not equally between rooms

A daily-use kitchen may need more fixed work than an occasional guest room. If the third bedroom is mainly a workspace, its desk and storage priorities may differ from a bedroom used every night.

For each purchase, ask what activity it supports, whether an existing item can do the job and whether postponing it would disturb completed work.

Keep repeated upgrades visible

An extra drawer or finish upgrade may look small on one unit. Across several wardrobes and cabinets, it can materially change the budget. Request the whole-home price difference before approving repeated specifications.

Maintain one running total covering every vendor, purchase and approved change. Mark amounts as allowances, quotations, orders or payments so uncertainty stays visible.

Phase without creating rework

Some loose furniture and decorative purchases can wait. Before postponing fixed work, ask whether services, access or matching materials must be addressed now. Use the new-flat checklist to record dependencies.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 3 BHK always proportionately more expensive than a 2 BHK?

No. Compare actual scope rather than bedroom count. A heavily renovated 2 BHK can require more work than a lightly furnished 3 BHK.

Does a whole-home package include appliances?

Only if they are explicitly listed. Keep excluded purchases in the household budget.

How do I reduce a quotation that exceeds my target?

Ask for separately priced changes to optional units, finishes and decorative work. Our affordable interiors guide provides a worked scope reduction.
