The lighting in the lounge should reflect the mood of the room. If you want your guests to just relax and grow comfortable, then you will want subtler lighting. If you want to create a more light-hearted atmosphere, then brighter or more colourful lights are what you are looking for. Here are a few lighting ideas to help set the mood in your lounge.
Adjustable Lights to Meet Your Mood
Not every lounge needs to just go to one mood setting, Sometimes you want to shake things up a bit and alter the look of your lounge. One of the easiest ways to do that is to include adjustable lighting. If you can change the brightness of the lights, you can change the mood of the room.
But keep in mind that your lighting arrangements set a mood as well. If your lights are encased in ornate holders, then colourful or bright lights might not be the best choice. If you think that you will want to change up the lighting every so often, then you probably want to go with simpler light designs. The more spartan the bulb holders and lamps are, the better they will reflect the mood you are attempting to emulate with the lighting.
For large lounge areas you can create a couple of moods at once. If you use a concentrated, central light overhead, you focus the light in one area. This allows for the hub of activity to take place in the central area. Around the edge of the room is a different story and a different mood.
By focusing the light centrally, you create a lot of darker spaces in the room that allow people to relax or carry on more private conversations. You will want to set up your seating arrangements accordingly, but this can be a great way to give your guests freedom to choose the mood they want.
Multiple Light Sources
Electrical lights are not the only way to set a mood for a lounge. You can also bring in natural light if you have the right design. This will involve a large window or several of them. And you can place heavy curtain on the windows to control the amount of light being received into the room.
During the night, you will want to use electrical lights, so you should set them up around the room to create the kind of atmosphere you want. If you don’t have the ability to install lights wherever you want to light up the whole room then there are other options available to you. You can place lamps, both floor lamps and desktop lamps, around the room to fill out the lighting requirements. Just make sure that the shades on these lamps match the patterns and colours of the rest of your room.
There are actually a lot of different ways you can set of the lighting for your lounge. These are just a few of our favourite ways to control the mood and make a lounge that suits your style.
